Upbeat Workout Music, Mix #10

As I'm writing this post, on Sunday evening, I'm about to start a bartending shift. Actually, it will be my last ever bar shift at this fine establishment (Ducky's) because they're closing after tonight, and moving to a new location, after being in this spot for 23 years. But before start making any drinks, I wanted to get this latest workout mix posted.

The mix is a continuous music mix which is an hour long, and anyone can download it (the link is near the bottom of this post). This mix is for demo purposes only, and commercial resale or redistribution is not permitted.

Here are Track Listings for Workout Mix #10:

01. RAC feat Penguin Prison, "Hollywood" (Felix Da Housecat Remix).
02. Visitor, "Coming Home" (FM Attack Remix).
03. Pitbull feat Chris Brown, "International Love" (Darwich & Michael Rune Remix).
04. Madonna, "Turn Up The Radio" (Alessio Silvestro Remix).
05. Swedish House Mafia, "Don't You Worry Child" (Dark Intensity Club Edit).
06. Chris Brown, "Don't Wake Me Up" (Fat Rat Remix).
07. Dragonette, "Let It Go" (The Knocks Remix).
08. Zedd feat Matthew Koma, "Spectrum" (Extended Remix).
09. Nicki Minaj, "Starships" (Justin Sane Remix).
10. Pink, "Blow Me One Last Kiss" (Jyvhouse Extended Bass Remix).
11. Flo Rida feat Sia, "Wild Ones" (Maison & Dragen Remix).
12. Calvin Harris feat Ne Yo, "Let's Go" (JD Milani At Night Remix).
13. Icona Pop feat Charli Xcx, "I Love It" (Sick Individuals Remix).

15. Ke$ha, "Die Young" (Seamus Haji Extended Mix).

17. Carly Rae Jepsen, "Call Me Maybe" (C Rok Candy Mix).

Note: If you're trying to track down remixes listed above and they sound different than what you're hearing in this mix, it's because I do a lot of specific editing of my own to each track before I put the mix together, and there is a lot of extra percussion added.

To download a 1.5 GB Zip file that includes all of the mixes in DJ Bolivia's workout series, right-click on this link and choose "save target" or "save link":

For links to the blog posts about the other mixes in this series, visit:

I have lots of other upbeat electronica mixes available on my DJ website. Admittedly, there aren't too many mixes there [yet] that are exclusively club dance tracks, but there are a lot of house/trance mixes that I find to be pretty good to listen to when I'm going running. Or driving. Or doing any sort of mindless task where I just want some energetic beats to listen to. Most of them are about an hour long, to fit onto a standard CD. Check them out, maybe you'd enjoy some of them? And click here if you're interested in one of my favorites, a massive four-hour mix that I made of classic dance tracks from the late 1990's and early 2000's.

If you like this mix, please post this link on your Facebook walls, or to Twitter! If you're a member of any sort of workout or fitness website or message board, feel free to post a link to this post there. I appreciate your help sharing this around!

Upbeat Workout Music, Mix #09

As I'm writing this post, on Sunday evening, I'm sitting on a sunny balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'm eight floors up, so the traffic going by underneath is pretty easy to hear. And in the past hour, I've heard vehicles go by that were blasting three separate songs that I put onto this mix. I guess that means they're popular.

The mix is a continuous music mix which is an hour long, and anyone can download it (the link is underneath the track listings). This mix is for demo purposes only, and commercial resale or redistribution is not permitted.

Here are Track Listings for Workout Mix #09:

01. Jessie J, "Domino" (DJ Slider Club Mix).
02. Havana Brown feat Pitbull, "We Run the Night."
03. Katy Perry, "Part Of Me" (DJ Skeet Club Remix).
04. Psy, "Gangnam Style" (MaxiGroove Remix).
05. David Guetta feat Nicki Minaj, "Turn Me On" (Paul Byrne Extended Mix).
06. One Direction, "Live While We're Young" (Dave Audé Club Mix).
07. Flo Rida, "Whistle" (Cosmic Dawn Club Mix).
08. Kylie Minogue, "Timebomb" (Steven Redant & Phil Romano Club Mix).
09. Usher, "Scream" (8Barz Remix).
10. Madonna, "Girl Gone Wild" (Justin Cognito Extended Mix).
11. Rihanna, "Where Have You Been" (Hardwell Club Mix).
12. Pitbull, "Back In Time" (DJ CeeJay).
13. One Direction, "What Makes You Beautiful" (Lenny B Extended Vocal Remix).
14. Nicki Minaj, "Pound The Alarm" (Edson Pride Club Mix).
15. Carly Rae Jepson, "This Kiss" (Digital Dog Club Mix).
16. Calvin Harris feat Florence Welch, "Sweet Nothing" (Extended Mix).

Note: If you're trying to track down remixes listed above and they sound different than what you're hearing in this mix, it's because I do a lot of specific editing of my own to each track before I put the mix together, and there is a lot of extra percussion added.

STU Graffiti Party, 2012

I just played at the Holy Cross Graffiti Party at STU this past weekend in Fredericton. As always, the crowd was great and I had a lot of fun.

The set was done on CDJ players, not through Ableton. I didn't record it, but I did write down a set list below. It was a very mainstream/top40 sort of event, and I played requests for most of the night. I ended up playing about 17 or 18 requests, and unfortunately I had requests for four songs that I didn't have (well, one that was an inappropriate genre at the time, one track that I didn't have, and two tracks that I couldn't identify based on the possibly-inaccurate titles that I was given). I played some downtempo tracks (mostly classic hip hop) for the first hour, and the dance floor was pretty packed for the last two hours, when I played a lot of older top40 hits (these were mostly requests).

Here's the set list:

Christmas Night Party at Club 981

I played the annual Christmas night party at Club 981 in Neguac (near Miramichi) again the other night. What a party. I did this last year too. I would have expected that not a lot of people would come out to party on a Christmas night, but that was a mistaken assumption.

I've got a set list below, for anyone who was at the event and is trying to figure out some of the songs that I was playing. I assume that people would have known all the tracks from the last hour and a half, but maybe not some of the songs in the first half of the evening. I started out with a bit of rock & even a couple country songs, then moved into current pop music. However, when I started getting into dance music, everyone started requesting "classic" mainstream hits, so after the Lady Gaga track that I played, I gave up trying to play newer music and just went with songs that were a couple years old. As a DJ, it's good to play what the crowd wants to here.

For anyone in Halifax, I'll be playing a show with David Anthony on Thursday evening. This should be fun ... we used to DJ together pretty frequently about ten years ago, back in the days of vinyl, but we haven't played together in a decade. That show will not be mainstream/pop - look for a classic house set on Thursday evening.

Anyway, here's the set list from Christmas Eve:

Aerosmith, “St. John”
Blink 182, “All The Small Things”
Collective Soul, “Where The River Flows”
Don Henley, “Boys Of Summer”

STU Graffiti Party 2011

I played at the Graffiti party at St. Thomas University in Atlantic Canada several hours ago, and it was quite the event. I really wish that I had recorded the last couple hours of my set to post online. It really came together - some of the tightest two hours of DJ'ing that I've done in a while. Technically, almost flawless. I was pretty hyper while I was playing. In fact, I'm still bouncing around and probably won't get to sleep until lunch.

Here are track listings from the show, for those who are curious. As you can see, it was a mainstream/top40 party. I did half a dozen older hip hop tracks to get started, but moved into more upbeat tracks pretty quickly.

11. Haddaway - What Is Love.
12. Katy Perry - Firework.
13. Lady Gaga - Poker Face.
14. Livvi Frank & Pitbull - Now I'm That Chick.
15. Beyonce - If I Were A Boy (Karmatronic Mix).
16. Benny Benassi - Satisfaction (Afrojack Remix).
17. Global Deejays - One Night In Bangkok (Club Mix).

That last track was such a good track to end the night on. It's not an official release - just something that one of my good friends put together the other day. You can listen to it here:

Like I said, I wish that I had recorded the last two hours. However, I was planning to put out another top40 workout mix next week anyway, so I guess maybe I'll just do that sometime later this week. I can probably use a lot of songs that I played tonight on the next workout mix.

45. Duck Sauce, "Barbara Streisand" (O God Remix).
46. K'Naan, "Take A Minute."

Like I said, it was a mostly mainstream/top40 show. I started with an hour of 90's hip hop mixed with modern hip hop, and then went into more upbeat tracks for the last couple hours. I think that the only thing I really regret is throwing the Usher/Pitbull track in near the end. I had to speed it up quite a bit to make it beat-mix, so it sounds out of place to me. There were a few minor slips in the beat mixing and key mixing, but overall, considering the chaos, the mix is pretty good. This was mixed live on CDJ's, not on a laptop. I ended up "mastering" the mix heavily with the Waves L3 Ultramaximizer plug-in, which I am not fond of doing, but it makes the end mix sound more like it did in person. That's kind of important, since a lot of people won't be listening to this on a loud system like we had at the party.

Harper Havoc 2010 Set List

This is another top40/mainstream set, not house/trance/techno. It was a booking at one of the major residences at the University. Not a huge party, maybe 300-400 people, but a lot of fun.

I did not record this show. To be honest, I was scared to. I put out a call for requests before the party, and got a few pages worth - enough for about three nights of music. I tried to play at least one request from everyone, so it led to a very patchwork set for the first few hours. So for any of the professional DJ's looking at this who are thinking, "how can all that flow together?" ... well, it can't. But a busy dance floor works wonders when you're playing popular songs, even if you're switching up the genres frequently. I wanted to mix in some down-tempo, some classic rap, some contemporary hip hop, some rock, and some 128bpm dance tracks. Musical chaos. The last hour and a half felt like it flowed decently though.

Here are the set listings from tonight's show.
